Social Skills Training Groups
Designed to teach learners with ASD to interact with adults, peers and other people in an appropriate manner. The groups include instruction, on the specific social skill being taught, provide opportunities to role-playing and practice the skill followed by constructive feedback to help learners with ASD have positive interactions with peers focused around communication, play and social skills.
Scripting
A written or verbal description is given about a specific skill or situation to provide a model for the learner to follow. These are practiced prior to them being used in a social situation.
Peer-mediated instruction and intervention
Teachers and or service providers teach peers strategies in a systematic way to engaging children and youth with ASD in positive and extended social interactions, with initiation by both teachers and learners. Neurotypical peers interact with and/or help children and youth with ASD to acquire new behavior, social and communication skills, by increased exposure to social and learning opportunities within day to day environments.
