BEHAVIORAL CHARACTERISTICS
- Restricted behavior, activities, and interests
- Repetitive body movements (hand flapping, rocking, spinning)
- Moving constantly
- Preoccupation with a narrow topic of interest, sometimes involving numbers or symbols
- Abnormal posture, odd ways of moving, or clumsiness
- Hypo- or hyper-reactions to sensory input (e.g. certain sounds or textures, may be indifferent to temperature or pain)
- Obsessive attachment to unusual objects (rubber bands, light switches)
- Need for sameness, order, and routines (e.g. lines up toys, follows a rigid schedule). Fascinated by spinning objects, moving pieces, or specific parts of toys (e.g. spinning the wheels on a race car, instead of playing with the whole car)
- Becomes upset by change in routine
- Play - Plays with toys the same way every time, lines up toys or other objects
